Research training and PhD at SUM

SUM has about 15 PhD students working at the Centre at any time. SUM also offers doctoral courses and an interdiciplinary Research School.

 SUM offers doctoral training organised through the following main avenues:

 

  1. PhD positions

SUM has about 15 PhD students working at the Centre at any time. SUM does not itself grant doctoral degrees; PhD students must be enrolled at one of the faculties at the University of Oslo, where they will also defend their dissertation. PhD positions are announced on SUM's webpages.

 

  1. Doctoral Courses

SUM offers multidisciplinary and international doctoral courses originating in the center's ongoing research. Course candidates can find more information about upcoming and previous courses here

 

  1. SUM Research School

PhD students already participating in a PhD programme at the University of Oslo may apply for enrollment in SUM Research School. The purpose of SUM Research School is to give students theoretical and practical experience in undertaking interdisciplinary research on development and the environment.
