Research training and PhD at SUM

SUM has about 15 PhD students working at the Centre at any time. SUM also offers doctoral courses and an interdiciplinary Research School.

PhD positions

SUM does not itself grant doctoral degrees; PhD students must be enrolled at one of the faculties at the University of Oslo, where they will also defend their dissertation.

SUM Research School

PhD students already participating in a PhD programme at the University of Oslo may apply for enrollment in SUM Research School. The purpose of SUM Research School is to give students theoretical and practical experience in undertaking interdisciplinary research on development and the environment.
