About the project
Chancellor College’s Dept. of Political and Administrative Studies (PAS) and the University of Oslo’s Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM) have a long and well-established history of academic collaboration and exchange dating back to 2006. This collaborative project aims at influencing public policy and building and further strengthening research, educational and administrative capacity in Malawi through an interrelated set of activities – research on democratic and economic governance, training of Masters and PhD students, strengthening administrative and institutional capacity – undertaken jointly by team from the University of Oslo and Chancellor College.
Objectives
The main goal is to enable Chancellor College to help build a critical mass of more and better qualified Malawians who can effectively engage with political and economic elites and policymakers, and thereby positively influence decision-making processes related to democratic and economic governance. A major project component entails the introduction of a 2-year Masters in Public Management and support to PhD students in areas that are specifically geared towards addressing democratic and economic governance skills and capacity deficits among public servants and civil society organisations in Malawi.
