Undervisning

Bakgrunn

Desmond McNeill har bachelorgrad i sosialøkonomi fra University of Cambridge (1969), og doktorgrad i sosialøkonomi fra University College London (1988). Fra 1969-71 jobbet han i fredskorpset (VSO) i Tanzania, og fra 1971-75 i et konsulentfirma som gjorde studier i Afrika, Asia og Latin Amerika. Han var førstamanuensis og senere Director of Overseas Services, ved Development Planning Unit, University College London fra 1976-84. Fra 1985-87 var han førstamanuensis ved Department of Economics, University of Edinburgh. Etter å ha flyttet til Norge i 1987 var han ansatt som konsulent, og senere rådgiver i NORAD. Siden det har han jobbet hovedsakelig i akademia, men med interesse i å kople forskning og politikk. Fra 1992 - 2001 var han senterleder ved SUM. Fra 2001-2018 var han forskningsleder, og leder av SUMs Forskerskole. Han er medlem av IPES-food (the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems).
