About the course
This course explores the contested nature of the sustainable development discourse and highlights the core features of the 2030 Agenda. What is the added value of international goal-setting and how does the international community justify the ambitious SDGs?
With the help of case studies from Malawi, Rwanda, India, and China, we examine how and to what extent the global development agenda has been operationalized at national and local levels. We also discuss a set of promising practices and identify the most critical challenges ahead, including the need for a greater focus on addressing the politics of the sustainable development agenda.
This free and open online course is based on a module offered at the University of Oslo in January 2020.
