A recent report finds that India, the fastest-growing major economy in the world, has some of the world's most polluted cities. This includes Kolkata. Despite growing awareness on environmental issues and the role of human agency in climate change, political leaders in large parts of the world have been slow to react to the emerging scientific consensus. But what can and should politicians do to better address the concerns of citizens?

These were among the points of discussion at the event, which was the result of a collaboration between Professor Dan Banik from the University of Oslo and Professor Samir K. Das from the University of Calcutta.
