The Human Rights and Extreme Poverty Network

The purpose of the HUREP network is to promote interdisciplinary research in the area of human rights and extreme poverty. Although primarily academic in nature, the HUREP network also brings together policymakers, members of voluntary organisations and other civil society actors involved in, or interested in, applying research from the field of human rights and extreme poverty in their own activities.

About the Network

The purpose of the HUREP network is to promote interdisciplinary research in the area of human rights and extreme poverty. Although primarily academic in nature, the HUREP network also brings together policymakers, members of voluntary organisations and other civil society actors involved in, or interested in, applying research from the field of human rights and extreme poverty in their own activities.

In addition to encouraging research and publications on the links between human rights and extreme poverty, the HUREP project organises regular seminars, workshops and conferences in Norway and abroad. The HUREP network therefore provides a platform for participants in HUREP-related events to continue their interactions. It also facilitates contact with other scholars, consultants, bilateral/multilateral agencies and practitioners interested in the topic throughout the world.

We thus hope to encourage useful and innovative communication – and in the process perhaps create a global movement – on human rights-based approaches to development and poverty eradication.

Organisation

The HUREP network consists of academics, consultants, activists and practitioners who have been involved in HUREP activities, such as seminars, workshops and conferences and who share an interest in the human rights and extreme poverty linkages. Members of the network share a common concern for the formulation and implementation of anti-poverty projects and programmes grounded in human rights principles.

Financing

What Can the HUREP Network Offer?

The HUREP Secretariat provides the network with relevant information about HUREP activities through regular updates to the mailing list. In addition, members of the network can suggest topics for further research (including collaboration and application for funding) and further encourage exchange of scholars and students among institutions and organise activities in their local settings.

The HUREP website further provides a platform for those who wish to contact experts within specific fields of interest and expertise. The HUREP Secretariat maintains a database with information on areas of expertise of its members, and the network can thus enable institutions and individuals to locate individual researchers with particular expertise, either in relation to a country/region and/or specific topic.
