Jason Hickel: The 2023 Arne Næss Professor at the University of Oslo

The Centre for Development and the Environment was proud to announce Jason Hickel as the 2023 Arne Næss Professor.

Less is More. How Degrowth Will Save the World (Penguin Random House, 2021)

Professor Hickel is a visionary thinker, writer and academic who is internationally known for his ground-breaking work on global inequality, imperialism and ecological economics.  His most recent book is Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World (Penguin Books 2021).  

Hickel is an economic anthropologist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Professor at the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, he writes regularly for The Guardian,  Foreign Policy, Al Jazeera, Current Affairs and other outlets. 

Arne Næss Symposium: Capitalism, ecological breakdown, and class struggle in the 21st century

The 2023 Arne Næss Symposium featuring Jason Hickel was held on September 13, 2023 at Georg Sverdrup Hus on Blindern campus.
