Background

Include is a research centre anchored in the social sciences, hosted by the University of Oslo and led by the Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM), UiO.

Include’s objective is to understand how we can realise socially inclusive energy transitions and a just low-carbon society. In addition to UiO, Include has five research partners (including Durham University, UK) and 24 user partners in Norway. The Centre enhances close collaboration between researchers and practitioners in the public, private and voluntary sectors.

About the scholarships and criteria for selection

We hereby announce two Include scholarships at SUM. Eligible candidates must be first year students enrolled in SUM’s MA Programme who will complete their theses in the academic year 2022-23.

The stipend per student will be NOK 10.000.

Criteria for selection of project/candidate:

  • Relevance to Include’s objective and thematic focus
  • Grades from completed MA courses and BA-programmes
  • Capacity to collaborate with other people and to do outreach activities 

Students who receive Include scholarships will be expected to present their projects and share results during relevant seminars/conferences.

Candidates who have previously received stipends from Include or SUM (e.g. Arne Næss Chair), will not be eligible.

Applicants should send their motivation letter together (1 page) with a two-page description of their planned MA thesis (including rationale, research question, theoretical anchoring and methods) and documentation of grades no later than 1st APRIL 2022. Applications will be assessed by Tanja Winther, Head of Include, together with a senior researcher at SUM.
