Affordable housing in the age of uncertainty - case of Buenos Aires, Argentina

Lead researcher: Marcin Sliwa, Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo

The aim of the project is to study how do cities change and respond to the conditions of uncertainty and contingency with Buenos Aires, Argentina as the chosen case study. The main research question is how were affordable housing and basic services provided in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires since the 2001 economic crisis and during the ongoing recession. Both formal (government-driven) and informal (community-driven) mechanisms and strategies are taken into consideration in the study. The goal is to contribute to the theory and practice of urban planning and housing development by suggesting policy frameworks that are effective in situations of economic uncertainties.
