Welcome to a reception after the seminar!

This is our first event in the new premises of the Centre for Development and the Environment in Nydalen. We will celebrate this with some drinks and snacks after the seminar.

In the context of the rollback of the Obama-initiated US-Cuba approach under Trump and collapsing supplies from close ally Venezuela, Cuba is facing new international challenges. At the same time, internal changes have been slow and insufficient to fulfill people's expectations. Yet, Cuba is playing a role in regional diplomacy and has undergone the most thorough political reform in half a century. In this seminar, current challenges and strategies will be discussed from international, national and local perspectives. It benefits from the visit by Cuban political analyst Carlos Alzugaray, the publication of the book "Cuba, from Fidel to Raúl and Beyond" by Vegard Bye, and the recent completion of a PhD in Anthropology on the informal sector and Cuban micro-entrepreneurs by Ståle Wig.
