About NorLARNet

The Norwegian Latin America Research Network (NorLARNet) is a network of scholars based in Norway that conduct research in and on Latin America. It has a small secretariat based at the Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM), University of Oslo.

NorLARNet was originally established in 2008 as an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to strengthen the knowledge about Latin America in Norway. It was funded under the 10-year MFA-financed Latin America program of the Research Council of Norway (RCN). Hosted by the SUM, it organized a large number of conferences, workshops and public events across the county, aiming to establish and consolidate a national network of researchers, and to disseminate knowledge to a broad public.

After the end of the Latin America program of the RCN, SUM has continued to fund a scaled-down NorLARNet. The NorLARNet secretariat currently focuses on providing a gateway to research on Latin America in Norway through disseminating Latin America research-related news, and informing about research activity and publications. We also may provide logistical and scholarly support for the organization of Latin America research related events in Norway.
