Exploring placemaking in Oslo - Towards a critical placemaking approach
Cities’ populations and the demand for ‘better’ urban spaces are increasing and with them an emerging interest in placemaking as a tool or approach.
What makes ‘good’ urban places is often underpinned as given and clear. However, it raises questions for whom and what reasons places and placemaking processes are improving urban places remains often implicit.
To deal with these questions Clara J. Reich, a master’s student at the Centre for Development, Environment, and Cultural Change (SUM), is exploring placemaking in Oslo through qualitative interviews. She is working on a critical approach, which considers diversity, positionality, contexts, and situated knowledge(s).
