How can a local grassroot initiative challenge and transform the global food system?

Transforming the food system in the face of urbanization, climate change and rising global inequality is urgen, and increasing attention is given to alternatives attempting to do so. However, current initiatives raises questions about whom these networks are for, why participants engage and how, if at all, transformation is taking place.

In her thesis, Nora May Engeseth, master’s student at the Centre for Development and Environment, investigates how grassroot innovation in alternative food networks challenge the conventional food system and contribute to sustainable production and consumption of food in Norway.
