These four volumes catalogue 4,000 manuscripts that belong to all fields of
Islamic studies: The Qur’an, Hadith, jurisprudence, literature, astrology,
grammar and sufism. In addition, they contain 1000 documents of historic value,
dealing with fatwas on daily religious matters, commercial and public issues,
correspondence between traders and scholars, and international relations among
Islamic countries. The Mamma Haidara Library was established in the middle of
the nineteenth century at Bimba village and is regarded as one of the best libraries
in Mali.

Description "The largest sections in this volume cover the Islamic sciences,
with 355 titles in fiqh alone and another large section on sufism. There are
also smaller chapters on natural sciences and about 150 titles of historical
works. The oldest manuscript dates from the seventh hijri century. The collection
includes a number of copies of manuscripts from the central Islamic regions,
but local West African or Saharan authors dominate the holdings".
