I 2012 er det 25 år siden Brundtland-rapporten om bærekraftig utvikling ble utgitt, og 20 år siden det toneangivende toppmøtet om miljø og utvikling i Rio. I et kombinert bursdagselskap og vorspiel, ses det både bakover på de første 25 og fremover mot Rio+20-møtet i juni.
The course will be held at the Centre for Development and the Environment on 10-14 September 2012. There will be a maximum participation of 20 students, and the language of instruction will be English.

In this seminar researchers will share experiences of mental health issues from several countries to develop strategies for identifying, enhancing, and improving different services and research that are appropriate for people to cope with mental health disorders after the civil war in Northern Uganda.
Dan Banik is directing a workshop on the relationship between democracy and poverty as part of the third international conference on Democracy as Idea and Practice, organised by the Research Programme on Democracy.
In this workshop, we wish to question whether certain regimes are better able and equipped to promote economic growth and eradicate poverty than others. In other words, what characterizes the relationship between poverty and democracy? And is there a connection between 'pro-poorness' and 'democracy'?

The principal objective of the course is to critically review different approaches to food insecurity, which will enable doctoral students to understand key poverty-related concepts and approaches that are currently widespread and influential among major international and national development agencies.
