LEVE was established based on an initiative from three faculties: The Faculty of Law, The Facultry of Medicine, The Faculty of Social Sciences and The Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM). SUM was also LEVE's host institution.

LEVE - Livelihoods in Developing Countries: Health, the Environment, and Poverty - was an interfaculty research programme operating in the period January 2009 to December 2015.
