SUM’s Rio+20 mirror event: Mini-Conference, 2-4 March
As part of SUM’s focus on sustainability, we will be holding a series of events to mirror the process of the Rio+20 Earth Summit. Using the themes of the roundtable events being held in the run-up to the Earth Summit, we will hold a three-day mini conference on March 2-4, 2012. The event will take place at two different venues. The first part will be open seminars at Litteraturhuset in Oslo (March 2-3). The second part will consist on a weekend cabin trip for PhD and Master’s students (March 3-4) combining workshops, discussions, and outdoors activities.

For the second part of the three-day mini conference, we encourage all PhD and Master's students to present their ongoing research or proposals at the workshops. The deadline to submit a title for the presentations is Feb. 26th.
The presentations at the workshops shall centre on any of the following topics:
- Water
- Energy
- REDD and forest management
- Sustainable consumption, waste, urban living
- Green economy
- Biodiversity, agriculture and climate
- Earth resources
- Women’s issues
The selection of participants who would like to attend the workshops (without presenting) will be based on their personal motivation, academic interests and current involvement with the themes of the roundtable events at the Earth Summit. All costs for the mini-conference will be covered for the selected students. A half-page long letter of motivation will be requested by Feb. 26th and prioritization will be given to those undergoing research in relevant areas to Rio+20.
To send the letter of motivation or for more information please contact: Cecilie Hirsch cechilhi@sum.uio.no and Tami Okamoto m.t.okamoto@sum.uio.no
