Arkeologiske funn viser at hunden ble domestikert i Nord-Kina allerede rundt 8000 år før vår tid. Om en blar gjennom Kinas kulturhistorie, vil en finne at hunden dukker opp i mange interessante funksjoner og sammenhenger.

Welcome to our open summer meeting! This year, award winning author Ivo de Figueiredo introduces us to his recent book "En fremmed ved mitt bord", a book that took him on a journey back to his ancestral village Saligao, in erstwhile Portuguese India. Lisa Björkman (Univ. of Louisville) will give a talk on "Pipe Politics, Contested Waters" based on her monograph on Mumbai. We also announce the winner of this year's "Best MA-thesis on an Asian topic". And, we serve drinks and refreshments.

After the national assembly elections in Cambodia in 2013, the human rights situation in the country deteriorated rapidly. Now, as the next general elections slowly inch closer, the human rights situation is once again in focus, with UN human rights experts recently urging the Cambodian government to protect civil society and respect fundamental freedoms in the country. In this seminar, Naly Pilorge, the director of the Cambodian human rights organisation LICADHO, will give a presentation on the current political and human rights situation in Cambodia.

Omoiyari er et japansk konsept som direkte kan oversettes til å bety "medfølelse", men som på et dypere plan betyr å verdsette forskjellene mellom mennesker, å forstå andres ståsted, og å minimere misnøye ved å kunne forutsi andres ønsker. I dette seminaret vil Alma Karabeg presentere hva Omoiyari er, historikken bak konseptet, og hvordan det praktiseres i dagens Japan. I tillegg vil hun også drøfte internasjonaliseringstiltak, og Omoiyari i det norske samfunnet i en mellomkulturell kontekst.
